Summary
Packaging Technician/Engineer for a consumer products company that both manufactures and sources consumable products for retail sales. Manage and support all facets of packaging for the business including supplier interface and customer placement. Support manufacturing by defining and implementing projects to improve packaging efficiency, costs and performance.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Drive the development of packaging for consumer goods typically sold in Mass, Drug and Grocery

Develop, propose, mock-up, test, qualify and implement primary packaging (bottles, closures, trigger sprayers, labels, etc.), secondary packaging (cartons, shipping containers) and display shippers for retail applications

Act as interface with sales, marketing, operations and others from R&D/New Product Development for existing and new product packaging

Create and implement packaging specifications and standards

Optimize system costs for packaging & shipping

Create packaging solutions for existing and new products that eliminate product damage in bulk shipments

Drive and manage package design and testing programs at suppler and contract facilities

Work with distribution to minimize costs

Work with sales, marketing and suppliers to create POP and shelf displays

Drive capital projects to improve packaging efficiencies during manufacturing

Maintain specifications and records of packaging and labeling history
Basic Qualifications
- A 4-year degree is not imperative; however, the successful candidate must have a strong technical aptitude and packaging experience in an R&D, New Product Development and/or Manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 5 to 10 years experience managing a broad range of liquids packaging projects from design through manufacturing including experience with the design, testing and qualification of plastic bottles, closures, trigger and pump sprayers, labels, cartons, shipping containers and display shippers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of supply chain operations both domestic & international
- Team oriented with experience both participating in and leading projects
- Must be proactive, hands on with exceptional attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with SAP
- An understanding of Stage Gate processes and Lean / 6- Sigma
